peer recovery support for addiction

About The Recovery Spot

What is the RSWG?

The Recovery Spot of West Georgia is a safe space that provides individuals who are working toward mental health/addiction recovery with a place to socialize and receive support at no charge. We offer support from Certified Peer Specialists and peer-led support groups.

The RSWG is a place for those impacted by addiction to share and receive information as they learn about and get connected to local resources.

The Recovery Spot of West Georgia is focused on 3 core recovery services:

1. Access to one-on-one recovery information, services, and resources: The RSWG assists individuals desiring help to overcome addiction, remain stable and work toward a healthy lifestyle by providing the support they need to make informed decisions.

2. Peer-led support groups: The RSWG currently offers Alcoholics Anonymous/AA, Narcotics Anonymous/NA, Adult Children of Alcoholics/ACA, CoDependents Anonymous/CODA, and All Recovery Support groups at the Stalling Community Center Building. These groups are promoted through Carroll County Mental Health Advocates and RSWG social media platforms.

3. Community outreach & education: RSWG provides community education programs to increase awareness of and provide resources regarding substance use disorders and prevention programs in the community.

Connection>Sobriety

Connection with others is essential for addiction recovery. It can provide comfort, support, and encouragement during difficult times. If you don't have a support group, then we are here for you. Come check us out and let us be a friend of recovery for you. Recovery is a journey, and you don't have to go through it alone.

Certified Peer Specialist

A Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) is an individual who is trained and certified to provide ongoing support to individuals and their families receiving mental health and/or substance use recovery supports and services. CPSs use their lived experience to promote hope, personal responsibility, empowerment, education, and self-determination in the communities where they serve.  CPSs are trained to assist others in skill-building, problem-solving, setting up and maintaining self-help mutual support groups, and building self-directed recovery tools. A critical role of the CPS is willingness to self-identify their lived experience, using it as a tool for helping others in developing recovery goals and specific steps to reach those goals.
